Help getting (win)Saga running on Windows 7 64 bit
Filed in FAQs on Jul.30, 2010
Anyone know how to get saga.exe, winsaga.exe or winsagacosmov31 to run on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit?
winsagacosmov31 will actually run but terminates without unpacking anything. No error messages,
saga.exe and winnsaga.exe wil not run in any compatabilty mode nor from a commandprompt.
I think to remember from very old days that a subfolder named ??? needs to be present? Anyone?

sorry but i have no idea.
I hope Arnaud our french GM or Rick may find something to help, otherwise AK is condemned. I have never been able to use dos saga and if i get a new computer with windows 7 if i can’t use winsaga it’ll be finished.
Thanks for pointing out that problem.

Probaly AK “is a 16-bit application so no one will be running it without the assistance of some sort of virtual application and virtual OS. (16-bit applications do not run on 64-bit systems)”
The above explanation I found on the homepage of another great old game which do not run in 64 bit either. Below is 3 options that all work well for that game. Personally I use option 3 and dos saga but option 1 sounds easier to me if it work.
1: Can’t be done natively in Win7 64-bit. However if you have Win64 Pro or Ult. you can install the XP Mode option for free from MS. That’s a 32bit version of Windows.
2: The other option on that box would be to have a dual OS installation. This way you keep Win7 64bit and have the option to boot into it or Win XP at system start-up.
3: Install a virtual box like Vwware, then install XP into Win7 via VMware.
